WHO WE ARE
BASS EL PASO (Bass Anglers Sportsman Society of El Paso, Texas) is a Social Fishing Club dedicated to the preservation of the bass species and its eco systems found throughout the outskirts of the city of El Paso. As members of Bass El Paso, we are individually committed to such responsibility. Our objective is to ensure bass survival for our own continued enjoyment and that of future generations to come. We no longer feel forced to venture out of our own county in search of this widely recognized prized game fish, but in order to keep and save what little natural resources have been placed before us in this desolate land devoid of natural bodies of water, we must first learn to protect and preserve them. This is why we feel so strongly about catch and release. It is the first step in ensuring the bass species survives. Think of it as an OASIS in the middle of the desert. Perhaps only then, you may see the value in it.
PURPOSE AND FOUNDATION
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of fishing some local areas which at one time were extremely productive with bass. Now, these same areas have been either lost to progress and modern development or they have been trashed and destroyed by people who enjoy the sport of fishing as well, or even just hanging out in the Great Outdoors, but have little regard when it comes to protecting and preserving these limited isolated areas which reward us with the challenges and joy of what for some of us, if not all, is a passion. Fishing for bass in our own local area without having to travel great distances to seek the experience. The environment has become so contaminated that the Bass, a once thriving species, are non existent. We have been losing these ECO SYSTEMS at an alarming rate and no one seems to be doing anything about it.
While some people will argue that Ascarate Lake holds Bass and the site offers a welcome experience; they haven't done their homework. Several years back, I did some serious research over Ascarate Lake. Needless to say, the results were dismal. I contacted the
countys' engineering department and found out there was no record of whom, when, and how the lake was escavated. There was no topography maps of any kind archieved and I couldn't get a straight answer from the different county departments I contacted. To this day, no one seems to know who excavated it, when it was excavated, what the terrain below the water looks like or how far down it goes at its deepest point.
I continued with my research in an ongoing effort to find out why trout and catfish are the only two fish species to be stocked at Ascarate Lake. This led me to seek the information I sought from the Ascarate Fishing Club and The Ascarate Municipal Golf Course department heads. The answer I got was one and the same. Bass are not stocked at Ascarate Lake due to cost! Whatever Bass are to be found in the lake were once the hitch hikers that on occassion got scooped up along with other different fish species as catfish were being harvested from nursery ponds to be transported and sold.
It is for the above reasons that I along with the help of my son have decided to create B.A.S.S. El Paso also known as Bass Anglers Sportsman Society of El Paso, Texas. We are recruiting Anglers of the sport. There is a great need to share stories and identify little known nearby places that continue to hold Bass to further enjoy the sport. There is a need to protect and preserve these environments and eco systems.
We must remember that we live in a desert area where natural bodies of water are non existent. The few man made lakes that do exist are either a part of private complexes where public fishing is prohibited or non productive for our pleasure. That only leaves us with sparsley separated ditches in the outskirts of town that at best only hold Bass in isolated pockets rather than throughout
their lengthy course.
Our MOTTO is: "SEEK the EXPERIENCE. ENJOY the PASSION."
Our Creed:
United we're assembled in the spirit of the sport. With the purpose of
protecting the Bass species at its core and preserving Eco Systems from
destruction furthermore. To enjoy the comaraderie from bonding common views and
learning from each other as we share the current news. The foundation of this
credo is a principle to please when we practice, practice, practice, to catch
Bass and then release.
